From Rick Page:

Webmaster Rick Page received the following e-mail message from our Secretary, Tex Nolan on 3/30/2001.  As you found out previously on this page, Tex recently underwent a liver transplant.  Here in his own words is a report on how he is doing!

"I wanted to let you know that everything went good with my liver transplant.  Normally  transplant people have to stay in Dallas for three months, they released me to come home at 10 weeks.  I am back working and doing extremely well, other than the shock of liver failure.  I thought I was in perfect health, and the middle of December I thought I had a cold and went to the doctor, then on the 16th of January I had the transplant.  I will see you at the May board meeting, if Don has not fired me as secretary."

Tex Nolan

News Flash:
The Board of Directors has approved the renaming of the golf tournament at the Mid-Winter Conference this year to become the First Annual Bennie Carter Memorial Golf Tournament.  This was suggested by the Region 5 Athletic Directors and Board.  Everyone felt this was a fitting tribute to such a fine gentleman as Bennie.
From the Houston Chronicle on 11/28/00:
A memorial service for Humble ISD athletic director Bennie Carter was held Monday.  Carter, 57, who successfully battled a form of cancer in his bone marrow, died Wednesday (11/22/00) of a heart attack.  "Bennie Carter was a tremendous asset to Humble ISD and a close personal friend," Humble ISD superintendent Michael Fay said.  "He was someone who was respected very much for his principles and for the way he carried out the functions of his job."  Carter taught and coached for 17 years and became an assistant athletic director for Fort Bend ISD in 1982.  He worked there for 10 years before being named Humble ISD athletic director in 1992.
